William (Bill) J. Grubbs is executive vice president and chief operating officer of Spherion Corporation (NYSE:SFN). Founded in 1946, Spherion^® is a leading recruiting and staffing company that provides integrated solutions to meet the evolving needs of companies and job candidates. Employing 275,000 people annually through its network of 700+ offices, Spherion is one of North America’s largest employers. Promoted to chief operating officer in November 2007, Grubbs has responsibility for all of Spherion’s recruiting and staffing businesses, including both the commercial staffing and professional services units.

Grubbs joined the company in 2005 as chief marketing and corporate development officer. He oversaw Spherion’s marketing and positioning strategy and led the development and implementation of the Company’s acquisition strategy. In January 2007, Grubbs was promoted to executive vice president.

With more than 20 years of experience in the recruiting industry, Grubbs has held a variety of senior executive positions in both the United States and the United Kingdom. Most recently, he served as chief operating officer of Spring Group, a staffing and recruiting company based in the U.K. that specializes in IT, clerical, financial and industrial staffing as well as recruitment process outsourcing and managed services. In addition, he spent two years as chief executive officer of Spring Technology Staffing Services, a business unit of Spring Group. He also served as president and chief executive officer of TRS Staffing Solutions, an independent business unit of Fluor Corporation located in Boston, Massachusetts.

Grubbs received a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of New Hampshire. .
