Step 3: Keyword Research |
-
Once you have exhausted possible keywords suggested by the content of your resume, broaden your review of keywords by doing some research.
-
Check that you have used nouns and noun phrases, rather than verbs in your keyword summary.
-
Check the keywords appearing in your company's current ad or posting for your targeted job (and any job descriptions as you collect them).
-
Incorporate the keywords of the ad or posting to which you may be responding.
-
Check your company's Web site. Don't just look at employment listings. Consider the descriptions of products and services, people employed, etc. Try and determine the kind of people the company is looking for.
-
Constantly review your keyword summary as you gather additional information about requirements for professionals in the field you are pursuing. A professional association Web site may also be helpful.
