Articles & Newsletter Registration Form Troubleshooting Tips

Why do I keep getting this registration page each time I want to read an article?

This registration form writes a cookie to your computer the first time you register. There are two main reasons that you continue to receive the registration form:

  1. You have cookies disabled on your computer, so we couldn't write the cookie to your machine.
Solution: Enable cookies on your machine, so we can write our cookie.
  2. You have deleted the cookies from the cache area of your computer.
Solution: You can re-register for the pages. This will add a new cookie to your computer.

What exactly are browser cookies?

Cookies are text files placed on your computer by some types of web servers (such as ours). They're used to store information about you so our server doesn't have to repeatedly request this information. Our cookies are used to store the fact that you have already registered to access the desired articles, so you do not have to re-register each time you want to read a new one.

Should I disable cookies on my computer?

That depends. If you frequent sites such as ours that provide you with a lot of personalized content, you won't be able to see much if any of it if you disable cookies. Certain sites such as ours that provide valuable content may require you to use cookies.

You can implement a "partial ban" on cookies by setting your browser to warn you whenever a cookie is about to be set, allowing you to accept or reject cookies on a case-by-case basis. But so many sites use cookies these days that a partial ban will probably force you to spend more time accepting or rejecting cookies than in actually surfing the Web.

How to change your cookie settings in Microsoft Internet Explorer:

  1. Open your Microsoft Internet Explorer browser.
  2. From the menu bar, select Tools > Internet Options > Security.
  3. Click the Custom Level button.
  4. Scroll down to the "Cookies" section.
  5. In the "Control Browser Cookies in Internet Explorer" section, choose 'Disable', 'Enable' or 'Prompt.'
  6. In the "Allow per-session cookies (not stored)" section, choose 'Disable', 'Enable' or 'Prompt.'
  7. Click 'OK.'
  8. Click 'OK' to close the Microsoft Internet Options window.
  9. Close and reopen your Microsoft Internet Explorer window for changes to take effect.

How to change your cookie setting's in Netscape Navigator:

  1. Open your Netscape browser.
  2. From the menu bar, select Edit > Preferences.
  3. Click the 'Advanced' category.
  4. In the "Cookies" section, choose 'Accept' all cookies, accept only cookies that get sent back to the originating server, or 'Disable' cookies.
  5. If you want warnings, click the 'Warn me' before accepting a cookie check box.
  6. Click 'OK 'to close the Netscape options window.
  7. Close and reopen your Netscape window for changes to take effect.
