Spherion is partnering with American Family Insurance on a DIRECT HIRE opportunity.  We are currently recruiting for an Investment Operations Director. 

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Investment Operations Director is responsible for developing and managing middle-office and back- office investment processes and technologies to support an effective and efficient investment management function. This includes investment book of record reconciliation, trade settlements, cash management for short-term treasury portfolio, performance and risk analysis and management, corporate actions, data management, and administration of technology solutions that support the business. This position coordinates with internal stakeholders to acquire needed services and manages activities outsourced to external service providers.

Qualification

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND MAJOR ACTIVITIES

Investment Operations Management

Develops and implements operational processes and workflows required to support the investment management function.
Oversees the delivery of performance, risk, pricing, compliance, trade data, security master file data, trade settlement and corporate actions.
Coordinates support services needed from internal stakeholders such as Program & Project Management, Technology Architecture, Enterprise Data Management, Sourcing & Procurement, Investment Accounting, Treasury, Enterprise Risk, Legal, and others.
Ensures control and compliance with risk management standards and regulatory requirements in all areas of responsibility.
Implements the proper level of oversight, review, segregation, and reporting for processes being performed by internal and external resources.
Works closely with division leaders on defining requirements for launching or on-boarding new investment strategies, managers, and performing operational due diligence on potential opportunities.

Investment Technology Management

Partners with division leaders and key internal stakeholders to identify capabilities and develop the technology strategy, vision, and execution plans.
Creates and oversees the execution of the project plan to purchase and implement investment technology solutions.
Prioritizes technology work for the division based on the technology strategy. Monitors progress toward fulfilling the strategy and adapts priorities accordingly.
Work across the organization to define and implement information technology policies and standards for administering, monitoring and improving investment technology solutions that align at the enterprise level of the organization and support the needs of the division.
Manages business continuity and disaster recovery preparedness, testing, and execution for division systems.
Develops and directs processes for continually assessing division's current and future system needs, in the context of overall company strategy. Oversees research into current and future investment technology trends and best practices, and determines applicability to the division.
Identifies and manages information technology risks in coordination with the enterprise risk management function.
Coordinates and oversees information technology budget and expenses. Monitors cost effectiveness of technology solutions. Evaluates other alternatives where appropriate.
Manages external vendor relationships. Ensures on-time delivery of capabilities, interfaces, reports, tools and systems from vendors.

Prepares and analyzes department/unit plans and reports.
Provides leadership by exhibiting influence and expertise, thus affecting the results of the operating area.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENT

Demonstrated experience managing middle-office and/or back-office investment activities.
Solid knowledge and understanding of various asset sectors and related performance measurement techniques (e.g. treasuries, municipals, asset backed securities, commercial mortgage backed securities, equities, converts, commercial real estate loans, private equity).
Demonstrated experience building and administering data warehouse environments.
Demonstrated experience administering technologies that support investment order management and performance and risk evaluation.
Demonstrated management or leadership experience.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENT

This position requires travel up to 5% of the time
