Job Description

A Grand Rapids and Midland, MI Property Management company is seeking an Accountant to join their team! Initial training may take place in Midland but the position would predominately be in Grand Rapids. This is a direct hire position and competitive benefits are available as well as the opportunity for advancement within the company. A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field is preferred.


  • Act as final reviewer for Property Managers' deposits and invoice entries, to insure accuracy.
  • Train, oversee and give direction to Accounting Assistant.
  • Update QuickBooks and proprietary software. Train company employees on all software procedures.
  • Determine and amortize monthly mortgage principal and interest payments.
  • Reconcile Visa bank statements and construction draws.
  • Prepare reports for Investors and act as liaison between them and financial institutions.
  • Prepare HUD reports.
  • Audit all information going to third parties for correctness.
  • Process bi-monthly payroll and allocates expenses appropriately to each property.
  • Pre-prepare annual tax returns and review them to ensure accuracy.
  • Develop forecasts for new projects and forward to financial institutions.
  • Calculate Housing Tax Credit Adjuster and determine equity contributions.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements including but not limited to Profit & Loss Statements, Balance Sheets and General Ledgers for all companies and forward to appropriate individuals.
  • Perform calculation of Payment In Lieu of Taxes
  • Prepare budgets for all properties and forward to investors.
  • Audit on-line bill payments to insure they are accurately recorded.
  • Review rental rates for compliance and determine rental increases.
  • Assist the Office Manager as directed.
  • Communicate, in writing and verbally, with Property Managers, acting as a "go to" person for information regarding accounting functions as well as with all outside officials regarding accounting and financial issues.
  • Perform basic office duties including but not limited to professional communication via email, phone, electronic and paper; filing, operating office machines.


  • Advanced level Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and QuickBooks
  • Knowledge of various accounting related software such as Deposit Now and check printing software
  • Ability to learn proprietary software with minimum time and training
  • Knowledge of tax credits and working with Section 8/ HUD requirements is preferred


  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting with a GPA of at least 3.5 CPA certification (desirable).
  • At least 4 years successful accounting experience in private industry or public accounting.
  • Knowledge of tax credits and working with Section 8/ HUD requirements is preferred
