Job Description

Definition and purpose
Under general supervision, to operate a variety of light and heavy equipment and trucks utilized in construction, maintenance and repair activities; and, to perform all tasks in the Maintenance Worker categories as required.
Essential Duties and responsibilities
Operate trucks, with and without trailers, of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, materials, and supplies. This will include loading, transporting, and unloading a variety of light and heavy equipment using and equipment transport trailer.
Operate a variety of light and heavy equipment including, but not limited to: backhoe, loader, excavator, Skid Steer, fork lift, wheel tractor, mower, and man lift.
Operate a variety of small equipment and tools such as jackhammers, mowers, chippers, and other equipment used in the construction and maintenance of District facilities.
Work with and assist crew members in digging ditches and trenches, hoisting materials, tools and equipment, and any related work with appropriate equipment such as backhoe and front-end loader.
Demonstrate mechanical aptitude, with an ability to perform basic equipment and vehicle maintenance tasks including lubrication, servicing, and minor repairs.
Perform all non-equipment related duties including those in the Maintenance Worker categories as required.
Perform all duties in conformance with appropriate safety standards.

Working hours: Mon-Fri 7am to 4pm

Employment Standards
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and a level of experience involving the use of light to heavy equipment deemed appropriate by the General Manager to conduct required tasks to the necessary standards of competence and safety.
A working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to light and heavy equipment operation.
Demonstrated skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment, to the satisfaction of the General Manager.
The ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
The ability to effectively and clearly provide written reports, as required, including driver's log's for trucks.
Responsibility for Public Contact
Frequent contact requiring courtesy, discretion, and sound judgement.

Licensing and Certification
Valid Class A California driver's license and current medical certificate.
