Job Description

This is a mid-level craftsman position that reports to the Fabrication Manager and is responsible for completing advanced finishing requirements for the Welding/Finishing Department.

Responsibilities:
- Accepts stock from both internal and external suppliers; expertly operates and maintains finishing machinery and deburring tools (drills, drill presses, dynafile, flap wheels, bead blaster, grinders, polishers, etc.) in an efficient, proper and safe manner.
- With minimum supervision, consistently produces high quality finished items well within specified tolerances; performs quality checks.
- Performs within safety margins; knows and adheres to safety rules and regulations; learns how to maintain safety equipment; incorporates safety into daily activities.
- Practices care, maintenance, and preventive maintenance on equipment and tools; learns good housekeeping habits and keeps the finishing work area free from debris and clutter.

Working hours: 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Skills:
- Knows the precautions necessary to avoid damaging stainless and galvanized sheet metal surfaces; removes all burrs; stays with the grain; produces high quality finishes, surfaces are smooth, and finishes are bright in appearance.
- Practices quality checking and quality control using measuring devices in addition to "feeling quality" and "sight quality"; minimizes the need for re-work during assembly.

Education:
No Degree Required

Experience:
1-4 years

Qualifications:
- High school diploma (or G.E.D. equivalency) is required.
- Technical college experience in welding is beneficial. Short courses in blueprint reading, and layout work are desirable.
- A minimum of two years experience as a finisher and knowledge of welding and finishing galvanized, stainless and grain materials are required; the ability to read shop drawings and blueprints would be beneficial.
