Job Description

Fire Protection engineers will assess, design, and provide construction support for both new buildings new and existing buildings undergoing refurbishment with respect to fire safety measures. Their role will be to help protect life, property, and the wider environment from risk of fire and to help ensure that projects meet industry standards, codes, and legislative requirements.

- Incorporating fire safety procedures into designs - such as wet-pipe sprinkler systems, pre-action deluge, fire pump, and fire alarms systems
- Direct the modification, installation, and operations of fire protection systems
- Keeping up to date with industry codes, regulations, and legislation
- Hydraulic calculations and sizing fire pumps
- Using computer-based modelling software (HydraCAD or similar)
- Visiting project/construction sites to observe the installation or implementation of the designs and provide associated reports of completion and deficiencies.
- Identifying hazards and occupancy types and providing designs which address the specific risks.
- Prepare technical and or operational reports and specifications
- Assess buildings or building designs to determine fire protection system requirements and potential problems in areas such as water supplies, installation constraints, and construction materials.
- Design fire protections/alarm systems of both conventional and addressable type. Systems may include air sampling detection, triple IR detectors, beam detection, and voice evacuation for assembly occupancies
- Develop training materials and conduct onsite training sessions for fire protection equipment installed or modified
- Develop cost estimates for construction of new and renovation type projects
- Meet with clients and/or attend review meetings to incorporate comments to projects

4-7 years

- Bachelor's Degree
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer in fire protection engineering in the state of FL
- Candidate must be authorized to work in the US and be able to obtain / maintain a secret security clearance for access to Federal Facilities.
