Job Description

Spherion Staffing is assisting a busy Utilities Services Company in Dade City Florida in identifying one stellar customer service representative to assist their front desk. The candidate will be taking payments, answering phones and assisting the general public with their questions and concerns both via the phone and at the front windows. This is clerical/cashier work involving the collection and processing of utility payments and other various municipal fees. Occasional overtime may be required. Position is temporary, with a small possibility for a permanent position, but placement is not guaranteed.

The daily tasks include, but are not limited to the following-
Answers questions and processes complaints regarding customer bills and fees.
Receives and verifies cash and negotiable instruments for deposits on new accounts and payment of bills and other municipal fees.
Checks and balances cash and negotiable instruments against receipted copies of bills and register tapes and posts in trial balance ledger on a daily basis.
Prepares daily and weekly cash reports.
Type form letters, records or lists; initiates work orders for water turn-ons, shut-offs, meter rereads, and calibrated tests and follows up with necessary paperwork.
Calculates fees, charges, refunds; prepares customer account adjustments.
Maintains various records and documents and completes reports necessary to the checks and balances system within the utility function; performs other duties as required.
Prepares daily bank deposits
Reviews meter readings for accuracy.
Processes utility bills and prepares for mailing.
Initiates procedures for collection of delinquent accounts.

Working hours: Mon - Fri 8-5

Qualifications for consideration-
The ability to learn the city utility services and charges within a relatively short period of time.
Knowledge of customer billing and collection procedures; skill in the operation of office equipment such as computers, calculators, cash registers, and typewriters.
Ability to maintain accurate financial records and reports and to perform simple mathematical calculations, to process and count cash, to read computer printouts.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions in accordance with applicable laws, ordinances, policies and procedures, and to maintain effective working relationships with other employees and to communicate effectively.
Ability to cope with extreme cases of human behavior, to deal effectively with the public in processing complaints.
High School graduate or GED with a minimum of three (3) years experience in general office work preferably in utilities, finance or business which has included extensive customer service and financial transactions.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station accessing, inputting and retrieving information.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
