Job Description

Under direct supervision of the Field Manager, this position maintains and operates all instruments and measuring devices needed to complete different types of land survey work assignments. Responsibilities also include resolving problems in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
This is a direct hire position, full time position, with overtime paid for more than 40 hours worked in one week. The client is based in Temple.

Responsibilities:
Key daily responsibilities include the following-
Operation of land survey equipment including transit, level, GPS, theodolites, data collector, distance meter, ranger, chain, electrotype, and telurometer
Familiar with the calculates of angles and distances for points to be set; understands basic field calculations and procedures and able to set reference stakes for construction layout or boundary designation
Sees that equipment is safely loaded, unloaded and stores each working day;
Sets up equipment in the field
Prepares supplies needed for a survey job
Prepares supplies needed for each survey job; and sets equipment at the site
Makes copies of field notes and reports, and maintains accurate files
Performs other duties, as assigned

Working hours: 6:50 AM - 3:20 PM

Skills:
Must have knowledge of survey instruments used in the measurement and location of lines, elevations, areas, angles, points, and contours of the earth's surface.
Must have knowledge of the field survey methods and techniques used in land surveying and mapping.
Must have knowledge of survey technology, including GPS.
Must have the ability to operate, adjust and maintain assigned equipment.
Must be able to precisely turn and read angular measurements, accurately point and read electronic equipment, give precise rod readings, and learn basic field calculations.
Must have familiarity with sets, repetitions, acceptable tolerance, and 3-wire levels.
Must have basic skill in operating a personal computer and a variety software application including word processing, spreadsheets and database software.

Education:
No Degree Required

Experience:
1-4 years

Qualifications:
A minimum of ONE year experience working in a technical environment
High School diploma or vocational/technical training preferred
Must be able to work various shifts, weekends, evenings, and holidays
Must be able to travel across rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces
Must be able to traverse on foot distances up to 1 mile at a time - up to 5 miles per day.
Must be able to work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others
The successful candidate may be required to drive a company vehicle??? MUST have a valid drivers license and acceptable driving record.
