Job Description

Join a friendly and team orientated work environment! If you have a background in wood technology or construction, this position is a great transition to a lab environment. The position is a Temporary to Hire position in the Madison area.

Responsibilities:
- Preparing and testing specimens, including cutting, marking, and conditioning;
- Conducting small- and large-scale testing of a variety of wood products (e.g., plywood, oriented strand board, lumber beams, nails and screws) using standardized ASTM and other methods;
- Cleaning and maintaining equipment and facilities;
- Working cooperatively with other staff to continuously improve all aspects of laboratory operations, including investigating, recommending, and implementing improvements in equipment and processes that reduce cost and/or increase efficiency;
- Other responsibilities and duties as determined by the Laboratory Supervisor and management;
- 0-5% percent travel may be required.

Skills:
- Ability to handle wood specimens alone, up to a weight of 50 pounds;
- A two-year technical degree in Wood Technology, General Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or at least two years of testing experience;
- Knowledge of and experience with PC-based software for data acquisition;
- Well-developed written and oral communication skills.

High School

Experience:
1-4 years

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED;
- Demonstrate clear understanding of basic laboratory methods and safe work practices;
- Experience with basic woodworking tools (e.g., table saw, drill, hammer, tape measure, etc.);
- Ability to learn, retain, and utilize test procedures and work instructions;
- Ability to be dependable (e.g., be at work on time, complete assigned tasks accurately and on time, ask questions when necessary);
- Ability to continually improve work skills.
