Job Description

The Logistics Freight Broker is primarily responsible for building a portfolio of carriers via prospecting, networking, and referrals. The Logistics Freight Broker is a proven non-asset operations professional who will bring a successful track record of sourcing carrier capacity and negotiating rates while helping achieve departmental service and profitability goals.

Operation: Build long-term, mutual benefiting relationships with carriers. Proactively manage carrier relationships to improve customer service, transit times and transportation costs. Book carriers on loads in a profitable and efficient manner. Provide Director with quarterly/annual reporting as necessary.

Systems: Become a proficient user of the company Transportation Management System (TMS) and associated components. Become a proficient user of DAT Load Board and DAT Rateview Accounting, Safety and Compliance: Ensure only the use of carriers which meet company carrier vetting and safety requirements.

Customer Service: Continually maintains a professional and courteous relationship with all carriers, customers, and company associates. Audit carrier performance to ensure service standards are being met.

Reporting: Ensures the accurate and timely preparation, processing, distribution and retention of all necessary reports and records regarding logistics operations.

Budgeting: Participates in the preparation of budgets with projections for revenue and purchased transportation expense. Provide overall account analysis.

Working hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

- Ability to build relationships with carriers that result in high customer satisfaction
- Ability to source carrier capacity to help achieve gross margin goals
-Ability to meet and exceed weekly/monthly goals
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists


1-4 years

- Bachelor???s Degree in applicable field preferred
- High School diploma required
- Minimum 2 years??? experience in transportation brokerage industry
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), internet, web-based and job specific software applications
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to maintain organization and conduct follow up
- Work as part of a team
