Job Description

Must posses valid machinist skills or schooling and including welding, prior to job bid.  Must be able to read and work from various drawings of blueprints, simple, or involved.  Must be able to overlay weld shafts, bushings, gears and re-machine to original specifications.  May use stick, MIG or TIG welding equipment. Must be able to, but not limited to chase threads, cut keyways, machine various fits, taper turn, etc.  Must be able to set up and operate all machines.  At times may be required to remove or install shafts, bearings, seals, etc.  May also be required to perform static balancing on certain parts.  At times is required to fabricate jigs and fixtures, be able to perform measurements and compare to specifications and drawings.  Must fill out inspection reports, production control forms, and time cards.  Must be able to start up and shutdown main mill components, compressor, and boiler.


 ·        Operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce metal parts.
 ·        Review electronic or written blueprints or specifications for a job.
 ·        Calculate where to cut or bore.
 ·        Select tools and materials for the job.
 ·        Plan the sequence of cutting and finishing operations.
 ·        Mark the work piece to show where cuts should be made.
·        Position work piece on the drill press, lathe, or milling machine.
 ·        Monitor the accuracy of cuts.
 ·        Check accuracy of work against blueprints and specifications.
