Job Description

Accountable for Continuous Improvement and Cost Saving Efforts along with Capability, Process, and Product Improvements for their Value Stream Team


·         Health, Safety, and the Environment
o    Drive health, safety, and environmental initiatives in accordance with GKN Sinter Metals methodology while leading by example o    Help to maintain compliance with the TS 16949 quality standard, company policies, safety rules, and 5S housekeeping standards
·         Engineering
o    Develop and execute scrap and non-standard sort reduction action plans
o    Develop standard work and operational instructions for operators
o    Provide technical support to the manufacturing team and help to solve production problems
o    Update cost sheets and part routers for process changes
o    Assist Product Engineering in launching new products
o    Enter and manage the Engineering Change Requests for their process changes
o    Write capital expenditure applications and define equipment requirements for newly awarded business
o    Work with manufacturing to implement new and improved methods for improved quality, cost, delivery, and safety
o    Work with outside suppliers to correct processing and/or product issues
o    Work with equipment manufacturers to implement new and improved methods for improved quality, cost, delivery, and safety o    Work with Tool Design to improve tool life and reduce tool breakage
o    Manage the product/process planning as products transition from the launching phase to the production phase
o    Act as a customer liaison to bridge the communication gap between customer engineering and the plant
o    Develop all processes with the goal in mind to develop one-piece flow mentality to minimize work-in-process inventory ·         Continuous Improvement
o    Generate a culture that fosters continual improvement and removes waste throughout the assigned site(s)
o    Implement cost reductions and productivity improvements
o    Play active role in all LEAN and Continuous Improvement activities
o    Participate in VA/VE activities and  assist in cost reduction activities and design improvement

 ·         Quality
o    Work with the Quality Engineer to reduce DMRs and customer rejections
o    With the help of the Quality Engineer, develop and update Control Plans and Process FEMAs for each part.  Have periodic reviews of these documents as part of the continuous improvement process.
o    Work with Quality to set special characteristics and track their corresponding capabilities.  Work to improve capabilities where needed.
o    Implement SPC charting of key characteristics with Quality Engineer
o    Assist Quality and Manufacturing in devising accurate and effective inspection/gauging methods
o    Assist Quality Assurance and Manufacturing in resolving part processing problems

·         Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or Engineering Science
·         Minimum three (3) years of experience as a powder metal process or manufacturing engineering with powder metallurgy and statistical process control knowledge
·         Must possess leadership and problem solving skills and work well in a team based environment
