Job Description

My client on the east side of Madison is seeking a Medical Coder to join their team! This client has a great working culture that prides itself on providing long term care for adults with disabilities or those needing assistance. If you have a big heart and want to give back as an administrative assistant, this is the job for you! This position is primarily responsible for prompt and accurate coding of diagnoses from the history and physical (H&P), physician notes and other appropriate medical sources in order to ensure that the clinical documentation system contains the complete and accurate diagnoses necessary for compliance with state and federal reporting and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:
- Assign and enter accurate diagnostic codes into the clinical documentation system ensuring consistency when applying policies and procedures of documentation.
- Research procedural and diagnostic coding system and ensure that current codes are applied.
- Identify and report conflicting, ambiguous or nonspecific information to manager.
- Remain current on relevant coding guidelines and maintain coding certification.
- Serve as first point of contact for intake inquiries for programs.
- Follow guidelines for follow-up to ensure accurate and timely response to all referrals and to maximize enrollments.
- Enter and update referral, case notes, demographic, and financial information into the EHR database.

Working hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Skills:
- Knowledge and understanding of current procedural and diagnostic coding systems.
- Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology.
- Knowledge and understanding of anatomy, physiology, clinical disease processes, and pharmacology.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Ability to exercise judgment.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships and provide outstanding customer service internally and externally.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to evaluate processes and procedures for continuous process improvement.
- Ability to adapt to and work effectively in a fast paced and changing environment with multiple priorities.
- Basic keyboarding, word processing and data entry skills

Education:
High School

Experience:
4-7 years

Qualifications:
- High School diploma required, some college preferred
- CPC Certification required
- 2+ years of data entry and medical coding experience
