Daily Shift Routine
Packing plastic bottles for shipping
Work Instruction
1 Purpose:

1.1 To define the daily shift routine for Packers in the Blow Mold, 1S8 and Deco departments.
2 Safety & Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP):
2.1 Review and follow all requirements defined in all procedures located in TAB1 of this manual.
3 Start of Shift:
3.1 Review the following with the out-going Packer.
3.2 Any product quality problems including any rejected products.
3.3 Any special instructions.
3.4 Check carton labels at machine to verify information is correct.
3.5 Visually inspect products using the acceptance criteria defined in GQR-01, General Quality Requirements for Plastic Containers, Closures and Caps.
4 During the Shift:
4.1 Keep the work area free of obstacles that may create an unsafe condition.
4.2 Assemble cartons. Ensure carton is clean with no previous labels or markings.
4.3 Place bag liners in each carton. Open bag just before placing bottles in. Minimize the time a bag is left open unattended. Quantity should not exceed one hour worth of production.
4.4 Plastic bag liner and carton label color codes are:
A. Clear bags and white labels for finished products.
B. Blue bags and blue labels for work-in-process (WIP).
C. Red bags and red labels for scrap.
D. Yellow labels for Samples & Hot Stamp.
4.5 Visually inspect bottles for molding, deco and labeling nonconformities using the criteria listed in GQR-01.
4.6 Pack cartons in the packing pattern and quantity per carton specified for the job.
4. 7 Wear appropriate gloves while packing or sorting.
4.8 When carton is full, verify product matches the carton label.
4.9 Place carton label on carton in the location specified and in sequential order.
4.10 Write your initials, date and shift on the label. If more than one packer works on a carton, both initials are written on the label.
4.11 Place tape on carton to close and completely cover center carton seam.
4.12 Assemble pallets using the pallet type and carton stacking pattern specified from the job.
4.13 Verify the carton matches the product on that pallet.
4.14 Only one finished goods pallet is staged at each machine at any given time. Empty pallet can NOT be brought to the machine until the full pallet is removed from the machine.
4.15 Any product brought off line to be worked into current order needs to be relabeled with current order information. Make notation on production paperwork, including source and previous label information, for traceability purposes .
4.16 Assist with line clear and new job setups as required.
4.17 Note: All materials from the completed job must be removed from the line and a line clear inspection performed before the new job can be set up
4.18 Perform any Packer cleaning assignmentsas specified on the Master Cleaning Schedule for the line.
4.19 Perform other duties as assigned by the department manager or shift crew leader.
5 End of Shift:
5.1 Clean your work area:
5.2 Sweep around machines and packing area.
5.3 Clean work surfaces and accumulator tables as specified on the Master Cleaning Schedule for the line.
5.4 Prepare for transfer to next shift:
5.5 Make sure there are enough supplies to start the next shift.
5.6 Insure any production paperwork is completed
5.7 Review any problems with the oncoming shift.
6 Corrective Action on Nonconforming Product:
6.1 Immediately notify the Molding/Deco Technician if any nonconforming products are found.
6.2 Check packed ware at the line to insure the nonconforming condition did not get into finished goods. If nonconforming products are found in packed cartons, notify the Mold/Deco Technician that nonconforming products may be in finished goods already in the warehouse.
