Job Description

Our client has been serving their clients for over 80 years in the wood-related construction industry. They are looking to add to the Manufactured Structures Division that provides plan review and inspection services of HUD-code manufactured housing.

A plans examiner reviews client-submitted modular residential and commercial building construction plans, calculations and specifications to determine their conformance with applicable State building codes and standards and recommends approval/disapproval.

The plans examiner reviews complex plans, specifications, and engineering data for modular commercial and residential structure construction to determine compliance with specialized areas of applicable building codes, such as electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and structural and energy code requirements.

The plans examiner interprets provisions of the applicable building codes and provides assistance on the phone to modular clients regarding code language and interpretation. In addition, the plan examiner prepares reports and correspondences for the modular client to questions posed or arising from review of plans, calculations, and engineering data.

Working hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

- Knowledge of Residential and commercial modular building construction methods, practices and material
- Application of techniques in engineering analysis of plans, specifications and engineering data
- Understanding of structural engineering principles and design of wood frame and non-combustible modular construction; of theInternational Building Code, International Residential Code, International Energy Conservation Code and its related publications.
- Ability to Interpret and apply ICC codes and modular construction standards
- Effective communication skills to resolve discrepancies in construction plans and specifications with engineers and modular clients


4-7 years

- Associates degree
- Prior experience in construction, trade or similar fields, grounding in terminology/concepts.
- Must demonstrate a genuine interest in this field.
- Current certification by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Building Plans Examiner, either at the time of appointment or within the first two years of employment. There is an increase in base salary after this certification is completed
