Job Description

A. Completes survey assignments;
B. Directs Jr. Party Chiefs, Instrument Technicians and Survey Aides in determining
exact location and measurements of control points, elevations, lines, and areas to
secure data used for construction, map making, boundary delineation, or other
C. Leads the activity of a field survey crew;
D. Effectively applies RCS methodology and enforces project standards;
E. Research deeds and make deed plots in computer aided design software;
F. Reviews blue prints and legal deeds to survey areas in detail;
G. Finds property corners, make calculations or rotates found corners to deed call to
find all other property corners;
H. Lays out existing and proposed right-of-way;
I. Keeps detailed and accurate records of crew activities, survey notes, field data,
linework files, and sketches of work performed and data secured;

J. Operates survey instruments on more difficult and exacting survey work;
K. Works with project coordinators and contractors in providing survey data for
expediting construction projects;
L. Measures completed construction work to determine "as-builts" quantities for the
construction project, which are used in computing the cost of the project.
M. Digs ground using a pick, shovel, or other hand tool to search for and locate survey
N. Holds surveying chain in measuring distances;
O. Cuts and removes brush and undergrowth for line of sight;
P. Drives wood hubs and spikes into asphalt or hard packed foundation roadway base;
Q. Instructs crew members in survey techniques;
R. Coach/train/mentor Jr. Party Chiefs to enable advancement to Sr. Party Chief;
S. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times,
streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality
seamless customer service;
T. Performs other duties, as assigned.

Working hours: Mon-Fri 6:50am-3:20pm

Must have Experience as a Survey Chief
Must be at least 18 years or older
Must have knowledge of the field survey methods and techniques used in land
surveying and mapping.
- Must have knowledge of survey technology, including GPS.
- Must have knowledge of construction plans and specifications.
- Must have knowledge of survey instruments used in the measurement and location of
lines, elevations, areas, angles, points, and contours of the earth's surface.
- Work requires a good command of the English language, oral and written
- Must have skill in operating a personal computer and a variety software applications
including computer aided design, word processing, spreadsheets and database
- Must have ability to perform a broad range of lead responsibilities over others.
- Must have ability to perform higher-level mathematical calculations such as calculus,
algebra, and trigonometry using a calculator or computer.
- Must have the ability to use complex optical robotic and electronic instruments and
equipment, including GPS, used in survey engineering.
