Job Description

-The Case Picker position is a manual handling, labor-intensive job. The Case Picker moves full cases of merchandise from the warehouse racks to pallets. Considerable strength and endurance is required to safely and successfully perform this job. These strength and endurance demands are due to the weight of the merchandise handled and the frequency with which it is handled. The work takes place in normal warehouse environments. The worker must maintain a work pace sufficient to meet established production rates.

-1st Shift: 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM
-3rd Shift: 7:30 PM - 6:00 AM
-All employees will be working a "2-2-3" schedule

Days worked each week: 5
Breaks: 2 (15 minutes each)
Meals: 1 (30 minutes)


1. Obtain and use vocollect unit - The Case Picker will be instructed, through vocollect, the merchandise location. The unit describes the type of merchandise being selected, the number of items to be selected, and the location where the merchandise is stored in the warehouse.

2. Operate powered runner - The Case Picker will stand to operate a runner to move through the warehouse. This device will carry one or two empty pallets into or onto which the merchandise will be stacked.

3. Select merchandise - The Case Picker will use the information from the vocollect unit to locate the merchandise then to move up and down the aisles of pallet racks in the order specified. As each item is located, it is transferred to the empty pallet. More than one item may be retrieved from a specified slot location. The worker will then move to the next slot location. This is repeated for all the items on the order. The worker will stack the items in order to fully utilize the available space. They must also be able to stack the items so that the stack is sturdy and does not fall over as they move. Items lifted on a daily basis will weigh as much as 50 lbs. and on a weekly basis as much as 75 lbs (assisted).

4. Stretch-wrap and deliver pallets - The completed pallets are manually stretch wrapped then placed in the loading area. Each pallet is marked so that it can be easily identified by the Shipping Department. The Case Picker will then obtain a new order and repeat the process.

5. Work Schedule - Although we want to avoid overtime work for a variety of reasons, including costs, overtime will sometimes be necessary to meet the needs of our customers and is considered part of the essential function of the job. When overtime is required, those qualified employees who are regularly assigned to the work, which must be performed, will be expected to work the overtime.
