Job Description

This is a mid-level position that reports to the Welding/Finishing Supervisor, and will be responsible for completing advanced welding requirements for the Welding/Finishing Department.

Essential Job Functions:
- Supporting a work environment where working with co-workers with divergent views are welcomed and solicited, that appreciates and supports the operating philosophy of the company.
- Accepts stock from both internal and external suppliers; operates and maintains welding machinery and tools in an efficient, proper and safe manner.
- With minimum supervision, consistently produces acceptable welds that result in high quality fabricated items well within specified tolerances.
- Selects and uses the proper measuring devices/tools for specified gauging; performs quality checks.
- Performs fit-ups and jig-ups for various machines and parts.
- Correctly reads and understands shop drawings and blueprints.
- Ensures parts are properly fitted together; produces high quality welds, surfaces are smooth, and finishes are bright in appearance.
- Practices quality checking and quality control using measuring devices in addition to "feeling quality" and "sight quality"; minimizes the need for re-work during the next process.
- Uses good safety techniques; keeps safety equipment in good working order and remains responsible for their keeping; has a good safety record.
- Becomes more knowledgeable of materials, welding machinery and techniques and products; reflects proper care and use of machinery and tools.
- Increases knowledge of stock including properties and sizes; sustains/increases production efficiency; decreases waste and maintains good scrap control.

Working hours: 6:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Mon-Fri w/ some OT

Skills:
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma (or G.E.D. equivalency) is required. Technical college experience in welding is beneficial.
- A minimum of 3 years experience as a combination welder and some experience in finishing are required.
- Knowledge of welding and finishing galvanized, stainless and grain materials and reading shop drawings and blueprints are also required.
