Under supervision, coordinates and delivers an adequate irrigation water supply to District customers in their assigned area, maintains records of the water used by those customers, and performs related work as required.Responsibilities:The Ditchtender is responsible for coordinating and delivering an adequate irrigation water supply to Ditch customers in their assigned area. Ditchtenders are the districts direct contact with the customers and are responsible for establishing an efficient system for distributing the water to those customers in accordance with the Districts rules, regulations and policies. Ditchtenders preform manual tasks associated with delivering the irrigation water, communicate directly with irrigation customers, and maintain complete records of irrigation deliveries to their customers.Working hours: Various Shifts AvailableSkills:Must have a valid California Class C license, Class A preferred but not required and must have a reliable vehicle with current registration and proof of automobile insurance. (Mileage is reimbursed) Any combination of education and experience sufficient to directly demonstrate possession and application of the following:Knowledge of:1. Methods, materials safety practices, and tools used in maintenance of irrigation ditches, canals, pipelines, and related structures.2. Operation and maintenance of water controls and diversion structures.Ability to: 1. Understand oral and written instructions.2. Organize and maintain a schedule with minimal supervision.3. Perform a variety of manual tasks and operate ditch maintenance tools.4. Demonstrate strength, agility, and endurance.5. Keep complete and accurate records.6. Work cordially and cooperatively with customers and others.7. Push, pull, tug, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds.8. Walk on uneven terrain.9. Climb over fences and up and down ladders.10. Work in an outdoor environment..day and night...on an as-needed basis.Education:TradeExperience:1-4 yearsQualifications:Must be ok with being on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the irrigation season. The irrigation season is usually November through March and the Ditchtender is generally moved to the maintenance crew during the off season.
