This career opportunity requires a minimum of Five (5) years of experience in legal assistant, paralegal work, or other litigation support in a professional law practice setting.
The Paralegal is an organized, efficient, and experienced individual responsible for enhancing attorney effectiveness by performing a variety of complex administrative and substantive law duties/functions which may be highly confidential and sensitive including client intake and relations, case coordination and management, document preparation and drafting, research, litigation support and trial preparation. This is a full-time, benefit eligible position scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
-Keeps cases organized by establishing and organizing files; monitoring calendars; meeting deadlines; documenting actions; inputting information into file database and case management software; confirming case status with attorney.
-Helps develop cases by maintaining contact with people involved in the case; scheduling depositions; preparing and forwarding summonses and subpoenas; drafting complaints; preparing and filing discovery requests; preparing responses to opposing counsel; generating status reports.
-Keeps clients informed by maintaining contact; communicating case progress.
-Maintains case costs by verifying outstanding balances with attorney, clients, and providers.
-Prepares legal drafts by assembling and organizing information for legal forms and documents, including complaints, declarations, discovery requests, responses, and other pleadings.
-Conducts research as directed by attorney.
-Assemble case materials by collecting, organizing, and summarizing information, documents, reports, and evidence.
-Proofread lawyers court filings and verify citations.
-Supports case preparation by preparing case summaries and materials for mediation conferences; preparing pleadings; monitoring and obtaining discovery responses; organizing materials for team case review.
-Enhances trial proceedings by organizing evidence; preparing exhibits; scheduling witnesses; ensuring that witnesses are ready when needed; taking courtroom notes.
-Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.
-Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
-Researching aspects of the case for purposes of discovery, including requesting admissions and production, and factual legal research.
-Attending hearings and trials in order to take notes, assist in jury selection, observe the jury, handle exhibits and many other tasks.
-Receives and screens visitors and telephone calls; responds to inquiries on a variety of matters such as the status of pending cases, administrative and court rules, and appeal procedures.
-Schedules and arranges meetings and conferences and notifies interested parties; arranges travel for staff including scheduling transportation and making hotel reservations.
-May take or transcribe legal dictation, minutes of meetings, and taped records of conferences, settlement discussions, or interviews.
Working hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
