Spherion Staffing is now interviewing for the position of Underwriting Manager to oversee the underwriting department within a local company. Main duties include managing a team of 10 underwriters. As the Underwriting Manager you will be responsible for hiring, training, mentoring, overseeing, and motivating your team. The Manager of Underwriting will work closely with Analytics, Tech and the Business Development teams to ensure that policies, procedures and controls are developed and followed in a manner to meet or exceed all risk selection and exposure management criteria. In addition, the Manager of Underwriting will efficiently capture all data elements needed to continuously improve credit risk and fraud model outputs.
Pay: $75-95k/year DOE
Monday-Friday 8 am-5 pm (sometimes later hours)
Responsibilities:
- Management, development, implementation and monitoring of all underwriting guidelines and procedures
- Work with Risk and Information Technology to ensure the policies, procedures and controls are developed to meet or exceed exposure criteria
- Coordinate with the HR department to interview and hire applicants for open position
- Conduct Annual Performance evaluations
- Conduct regular team meetings, calibration exercises and one on one meetings
- Seek team member's feedback and provide suggestions to management team
- Support the culture throughout the department ensuring all partner and merchant needs are fulfilled consistent with our Core Values.
- Partner with internal teams to ensure questions or issues on individual applicants or files are responded to promptly
- Conduct quality review or process adherence reviews
- Communicate, monitor and escalate technical issues to leadership team when there are impacts to UW productivity, partner relationships or risk related outcomes
- Actively review KPI reports and alerts to monitor productivity and policy adherence
- Conduct audits and business reviews of accounts as determined by Senior Management

-Bachelor's Degree required, an advanced degree in a quantitative field is a plus
-3-5 years working in business lending and risk with increasing levels of responsibility preferred
-Significant knowledge of business lending related to risk management, operations, sales and relationship management
-Experience in leading teams
-Understanding of supporting risk based underwriting models
-Must provide commitment to the highest ethical standards
