Spherion is seeking a decisive Weaving Department Manager to take ownership of the department, reporting directly to the VP of Operations. Our client is a long-standing, stable manufacturer in South Carolina that produces a highly specialized, premium textile product.
This is not a commodity manufacturing environment. Our client does not produce high-volume, basic fabrics. They engineer complex, high-quality textiles that require precision, technical expertise, and a commitment to craftsmanship.
The Challenge They need a leader who loves the mechanics of weaving. Because of the specialized nature of their fabric, standard "plug-and-play" management won't work. They need someone who can troubleshoot complex machinery issues while leading and developing a skilled team of technicians.
Key Responsibilities
...
- Strategic Leadership: Recruit, supervise, and mentor a team of supervisors, technicians, and loom operators. Manage associate utilization to ensure the floor is covered and efficient.
- Technical Problem Solving: Go beyond simple "monitoring." Conduct Root Cause Analysis on recurring defects and lead improvement initiatives to reduce waste and second-quality fabric.
- Asset Management: Ensure all weaving and preparation assets are maintained to the highest standard. Familiarity with CMMS (Computer Maintenance Management Systems) is key to minimizing downtime.
- Quality Control: Oversee online fabric inspection. Because this is a premium product, adherence to quality specs is non-negotiable.
- Inventory & Planning: Manage yarn inventory and ensure stock levels are optimized.
- Safety Culture: Champion a "Safety First" environment, ensuring compliance with all OSHA and internal standards.
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience: 5+ years of operational leadership in a weaving environment.
- Education: High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree in Textile or Industrial Engineering is preferred.
- Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of loom mechanics, machine settings, and yarn behavior.
- Skill Set: Direct experience in Warping, Slashing, and Yarn Manufacturing is a massive plus. Candidates with this background will move to the front of the line.
- Data-Driven: Ability to use data (Process Mapping, Six Sigma techniques) to drive decision-making.
- Systems: Experience with ERP and maintenance planning software.
Why This Role?
- Impact: You are not just a number here. You report to the VP and have a direct say in the operational strategy of the plant.
- Stability: Join a company with a rich history and a secure market position in a niche industry.
- Compensation: Competitive salary accompanied by a robust benefits package (401k, Health, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, PTO).
