The Bench Mechanic plays a key role in the final stages of production by precision-finishing, assembling, and repairing aerospace sheet metal parts. Working at a workbench under general supervision, this role focuses on reading technical drawings, operating hand and power tools to smooth and shape metal components, and using high-precision gauges to ensure every part perfectly meets strict aircraft standards.

Responsibilities:
Read Blueprints & Sketches: Review work orders, blueprints, and sketches to plan the correct steps for building, assembling, and fixing sheet metal parts.
Precision Deburring & Finishing: Remove sharp edges, burrs, and leftover chemical coatings from parts using files, edge breakers, and scrapers.
Operate Bench Tools: Safely use air and electric shop tools, including bench grinders, drill presses, rotary files, and sanders to smooth out metal parts.
Quality & Thickness Control: Use precision tools like micrometers, calipers, and ultrasonic gauges to check metal thickness and hit highly accurate targets (down to +/-.002 of an inch).
Team & Project Support: Help with special shop projects, join team improvement committees, and assist other team members when needed.
Working hours: 5:00 AM - 1:30 PM
Skills:
Chemical Milling Knowledge: Experience reading chemical mill templates and understanding chemical milling features or special metal conditions.
Continuous Improvement: A team player who enjoys learning new ways to improve shop efficiency (Lean/Continuous Improvement outlook).
Advanced Communication: Able to confidently communicate and work with people at all levels of the organization (from peers to managers).

Qualifications:
Read Blueprints & Drawings: Able to read and understand blueprints, shop drawings, instructions, and internal company policies.
Basic Math: Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
Follow Directions: Able to listen, read, and follow through on written, verbal, or visual layout instructions.
Safety & Rules: Willing and able to strictly follow all company safety policies and procedures.
Communication & Writing: Able to talk clearly with coworkers, write simple notes, and share information in one-on-one or small group settings.
Problem Solving: Able to use common sense and good decision-making to solve standard, everyday shop problems.
Basic Computer Skills: Able to log into computers and learn new screens, reports, and simple software with training.
