The CNC Lead Person is a highly skilled, hands-on master machinist responsible for the entire life cycle of production parts on CNC Mills and/or Lathes. This includes planning, G-Code programming, complex setups, quality assurance (to PPAP Level 3), and training junior operators. Responsibilities
- Expertly program CNC Mills and Lathes using G-Code (on-machine or off-line). Proficiency with Fanuc Controls is a must; Prototrak experience is helpful. Utilize CAM systems to optimize programming efficiency.
- Plan and execute job setups from beginning to end, including review of prints and specifications, material preparation, selecting and proving out work holding, cutting tools, and measuring/gauging equipment.
- Perform advanced machine operations, including managing Tool-Offsets, changing tools, and maintaining cutting tools.
- Perform and document critical inspection procedures at an expert level, including First Article Inspection (FAI), FPQP, and PPAP Level 3 submissions.
- Accurately measure and gauge parts using a full range of precision tools, including scales, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, micrometers, and plug/thread gauges, and accurately record all results.
- Train Operators on machine setup and operation procedures to maintain production standards.
- Capable of setting up and operating Manual Mills, Lathes, and Band Saws, including calculating and applying correct tooling, speeds, and feeds.
- Perform required deburring tasks using belt sanders, deburring knives, vibratory tumblers, and/or bench top grinders.
- Conduct simple machine repair, maintain machine fluid levels (coolant/oil), clean machinery, collect chips and garbage, and package finished parts.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and highly organized work environment.
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum 7 years in a Machining Environment.
- Minimum 3 years of G-Code Programming experience.
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Strong foundational math skills are required.
- Journeyman Card in Precision Machining, Tool and Die, or Mold Making is a plus.
- Must be capable of lifting and pushing at least 35 pounds; sometimes repetitively reaching and lifting 2 pounds.
- Must possess and use personal Machinist Tools, Measuring Equipment, and Hand Tools.
- Must be able to use computer scanning systems for the time clock and job tickets to track part counts and time accurately.
