Looking for a break from the routine machining grind?
Are you an experienced 5-Axis CNC Machinist/Programmer who is tired of pushing the same buttons, running repetitive short cycles, or feeling like just another number in a massive shop?
On behalf of our client—a premier, growing manufacturer in Salt Lake City—we are recruiting a Lead 5-Axis CNC Machinist & Programmer to help pioneer and build out a dynamic new division focused on advanced structural foam machining for high-precision industries like aerospace.
This isn't a "button-pusher" role. Our client is seeking a technical problem-solver, innovator, and self-starter who wants to take ownership, design machining strategies from scratch, and eventually step into a shop lead role as operations scale.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
...
Direct-Hire Stability: Full-time, permanent position from day one.
True Autonomy & Variety: No cookie-cutter production runs. Every project presents a new challenge where you'll design the toolpaths, workholding, and execution strategy.
Ground-Floor Impact: Have a direct voice in establishing shop workflows, selecting tooling, and defining operational best practices.
Leadership Career Path: Opportunity to mentor team members and step into a lead role managing a small production team (up to 3 staff) as the business grows.
Industry-Leading Benefits: The client pays 100% of medical insurance premiums for you AND your family.
Key Responsibilities
5-Axis Programming & Setup: Program, set up, prove out, and run a Multicam 8000 Series 5-axis CNC router using Fusion 360 CAD/CAM.
Machining Strategy Development: Analyze part models and technical drawings to design complete machining processes, including tool selection, vacuum-table workholding, cutting parameters, and sequence logic.
End-to-End Job Ownership: Take parts from initial print review through programming, machining, finishing, and quality sign-off.
Process Optimization: Troubleshoot machining bottlenecks, adapt techniques for specialized non-metallic materials (structural foam, composites, plastics), and build reliable SOPs.
Collaborative Leadership: Act as a technical subject-matter expert, assist with priority planning, and train junior team members in a positive, accountable shop culture.
What We Are Looking For
Proven Hands-On Capability: Direct "plug-and-play" experience in CNC programming, complex setups, and 5-axis multi-axis strategies.
CAD/CAM Skills: Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (Fusion 360 preferred).
Technical Blueprint Literacy: Ability to read and interpret complex engineering models, GD&T, and client specs.
Problem-Solving Mindset: A proactive mindset—someone who naturally identifies potential challenges early and presents practical solutions.
Valued Experience: Familiarity with CNC routers, vacuum workholding, or cutting structural foams/composites/tooling boards is a strong plus.
