As a CNC Operator/Machinist, you'll be responsible for setting up, programming (editing), and operating Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machinery-including lathes, mills, and multi-axis machining centers-to produce mission-critical parts. Your work will directly ensure that products like drill string elements, blowout preventer components, and large-scale valve parts meet the extremely tight tolerances and exacting quality standards required to perform reliably in harsh downhole and high-pressure environments.
...
Responsibilities:
Perform complex setups and operate various CNC machines (e.g., VTL, HBM, GTL) to execute machining operations such as turning, milling, boring, and threading on high-grade materials like steel and specialty alloys.
Read and accurately interpret engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders, applying a strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Utilize precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, depth gauges) to perform rigorous first-article and in-process inspections, ensuring all parts conform to critical dimensional and surface finish requirements.
Monitor machine operations, proactively detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions, make real-time adjustments (offsets, tool changes), and perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment.
Adhere strictly to all company safety, health, and environmental policies, including the safe use of overhead lifting equipment to load and unload large workpieces.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and quality assurance personnel regarding production issues, document all quality checks and production logs, and maintain a clean, organized work area.
Working hours: 4:30 PM - 5:30 AM
Skills:
Experience with specialized equipment such as Horizontal Boring Mills (HBM), Vertical Turret Lathes (VTL), or multi-axis machining centers.
Knowledge of specific control systems (e.g., Fanuc, Mazak, Siemens).
Familiarity with Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software and conversational programming.
Previous experience machining components from materials common to the energy industry (e.g., tough alloy steels, Inconel).
Experience participating in Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or other continuous improvement initiatives.
Education:
High School
Experience:
1-4 years
Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC machinery (lathes and/or mills) in a heavy manufacturing or production environment.
Proven ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and apply GD&T principles.
Solid understanding of G-code and M-code and the ability to perform basic program edits and adjustments at the machine control.
Demonstrated proficiency in using a variety of precision measuring instruments to verify dimensional accuracy.
Proficient in shop mathematics, including geometry and trigonometry, necessary for dimensional calculations and fabrication.
Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and operate industrial lifting equipment safely.
