Safely operate heavy-duty diesel forklifts (e.g., Taylor, Hyster, Kalmar) to load and unload flatbeds, step-decks, and internal transport staging areasTransport oversized, heavy, and awkward loads???including oilfield tubulars, drill pipe bundles, large-diameter casings, and heavy manufacturing dies???ensuring stability and correct load distribution.Organize, stack, and inventory materials in outdoor pipe yards and indoor staging zones according to strict space allocation and structural safety weight limits.Select, inspect, and utilize appropriate material handling attachments (such as pipe clamps, rams, or specialized forks) and assist ground crews with basic rigging setups when necessary.Conduct thorough daily pre-operation equipment inspections (fluid levels, hydraulic lines, brakes, tires, and lifting mechanisms) and document findings on the daily checklist.Work in seamless tandem with yard spotters, welders, and machinists using standard hand signals and radio communication to navigate tight spaces safely.Maintain strict awareness of changing ground conditions (mud, gravel, slopes) and overhead hazards (power lines, cranes, building overhangs) while enforcing a zero-incident safety culture.
1-4 years
Prior experience handling oilfield tubular goods (OCTG), drill stems, or high-pressure drill string components.Experience operating other heavy yard equipment such as telehandlers, mobile cranes, or overhead bridge cranes.Experience using rugged yard tablets, RF scanners, or inventory management software to locate and log material movements.Valid Driver's License (CDL-C) is a required for occasional short-haul movements or moving equipment between neighboring yards.
Minimum of 3 years of experience operating high-capacity forklifts (minimum 15,000 lbs. capacity up to 50,000+ lbs.) in an oilfield yard, steel mill, heavy manufacturing facility, or industrial port.Current OSHA-compliant forklift operator certification specific to Class 5/7 heavy industrial trucks.Deep understanding of load center principles, capacity charts, and counterweight physics to avoid tipping or overloading.Ability to operate safely in variable outdoor weather conditions (heat, rain, wind) and across uneven terrain like gravel and dirt pipe yards.Ability to climb up and down from large equipment cabs frequently, sit for extended periods while operating levers/foot controls, and lift up to 50 lbs. when manually adjusting forks or handling rigging.
