We are seeking a high-level Lead CNC Lathe Machinist to join a premier, AS9100-certified precision machine shop. Unlike a standard operator role, this position requires a "subject matter expert" who can handle complex setups, perform manual G-code programming, and oversee part production from start to finish. The ideal candidate will have a deep technical background in lathe operations and the leadership ability to mentor junior machinists.
...
Responsibilities:
Expert Setup & Operation: Perform complex setups on multi-axis CNC Lathes (including 2-axis up to 7-axis/multi-spindle) with minimal supervision.
Programming: Create and edit programs at the machine using G-code and M-code. Experience with CAM software (Mastercam, Esprit, or Fusion 360) is highly preferred.
Production Oversight: Act as the technical "Lead" for the lathe department, ensuring part production meets strict timelines and quality standards.
Precision Machining: Hold extremely tight tolerances (up to $\pm.0001$) in various materials, including titanium, stainless steel, and high-performance aerospace alloys.
Blueprint Proficiency: Interpret complex engineering drawings, GD&T symbols, and technical specifications.
Tooling & Maintenance: Select appropriate cutting tools and inserts; troubleshoot machine issues and perform routine maintenance.
Quality Control: Perform first-article inspections using micrometers, calipers, bore gages, and optical comparators.
Working hours: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Skills:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; NTMA or vocational machining certification is a major plus.
Education:
No Degree Required
Experience:
10+ years
Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum 10+ years of CNC machining experience, with a heavy focus on Lathe setup and programming.
Technical Skills: Proven ability to write/edit manual programs at the controller (Fanuc, Haas, or Okuma controls).
Leadership: Previous experience in a Lead, Head Machinist, or Senior Setup role is preferred.
