The Head Cook / Kitchen Supervisor is responsible for the overall daily operation of the retirement community kitchen, ensuring the preparation of high-quality, nutritious, and appealing meals for residents and staff. Responsibilities:
Culinary and Production
Plan, prepare, and oversee the production of all daily meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks) according to planned menus, recipes, and dietary guidelines.
Ensure all food is prepared safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of taste, temperature, and presentation.
Adapt menus and preparation methods to accommodate specific resident needs, including pureed, mechanical soft, low-sodium, diabetic, and allergy-restricted diets, in consultation with the Dietary Manager or community nurse.
Monitor food quality and portion control to minimize waste and ensure consistency.
Kitchen Management and Leadership
Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate all kitchen staff (e.g., prep cooks, dishwashers, servers).
Maintain a positive, collaborative, and professional working environment.
Manage food and supply inventory, including ordering, receiving, and proper storage of all items.
Control kitchen costs by managing labor hours and minimizing waste.
Ensure all staff adhere strictly to food safety protocols, including HACCP, temperature logging, and proper hygiene.
Sanitation and Safety
Oversee the cleanliness and organization of the entire kitchen area, including equipment, storage rooms, and dining areas, complying with local health codes and community standards.
Maintain and operate all kitchen equipment safely and report any necessary repairs or maintenance.
Conduct regular sanitation and safety checks.
Working hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Various Shifts Available)
Skills:
Current Food Handler's Certification or equivalent local health department certification (e.g., ServSafe Manager Certification) is required.
Demonstrated knowledge of therapeutic diets and nutritional requirements for the elderly.
Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:
Current Food Handler's Certification or equivalent local health department certification (e.g., ServSafe Manager Certification) is required.
