Our machine shop in Southeast Reno is looking for a motivated Shop Assistant to support our manufacturing and assembly team. This is a hands-on role where you will transition from basic assembly tasks to assisting in the fabrication process using manual machinery.This position is ideal for someone mechanically inclined who wants to work in a precision-focused environment and gain experience with traditional machining equipment.Key ResponsibilitiesMachining Support: Operate manual drills and manual milling machines to perform basic hole drilling, deburring, and light material removal.Mechanical Assembly: Assist in the assembly of components using various hand tools and shop equipment.Material Prep: Prepare raw materials for the machinists and ensure parts are cleaned and ready for the next stage of production.Shop Maintenance: Maintain a clean and safe workspace, including the proper disposal of metal shavings (chips) and maintaining coolant levels.
4-7 years
Mechanical Aptitude: Basic familiarity with shop tools and a strong interest in how things are built.Precision & Care: Ability to follow blueprints or verbal instructions to ensure parts are machined within specifications.Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for the duration of the shift and lift up to 50 lbs as needed.Reliability: Consistent attendance for the 7:00 AM start time is a high priority.
