When deciding whether or not you’d like to own a franchise business, an important question to consider is the opportunity it provides for growth. Over the last 70 years, Spherion has helped countless franchisees expand their staffing and recruiting business – and earning potential – through opening additional Spherion offices. As a brand, we encourage all of our franchisees to have a growth mindset and reach their full professional potential. However, we recognize that expanding to additional locations takes some financial, logistical, and strategic work.

Luckily, our time-tested franchising opportunity is built for growth and offers plenty of potential for an entrepreneur to expand their staffing business and their earning power through increased market share. To better illustrate that growth potential, let’s look at the stories of three Spherion multi-unit franchisees: Ron Zarbock, Tom Pentenburg and David Miller, who have successfully expanded their franchise businesses to additional locations.

Ron Zarbock - Utah + Boise

Ron Zarbock has been in the Spherion franchise family for more than 15 years, and has built an extensive staffing network in the Salt Lake City and Boise markets. A Salt Lake City native, Ron had always wanted to own his own business but was looking for a brand that put community service at the forefront. He found that in Spherion. Since opening his first location, Ron has expanded to eight offices across Boise and Salt Lake City. He also opened Spherion’s first location that specializes in professional IT staffing.

Wanting to bring sustainability and diversification to his portfolio, Ron’s Spherion offices have helped him and his team build strong relationships with clients in northern Utah and the Boise, Idaho areas. His team’s efforts to connect job seekers with employers exemplify Spherion’s mission of bettering the communities we call home.

David Miller - Florida

Franchisee David Miller began with three offices in central and southwest Florida and has since created a staffing network that extends from Leesburg to Naples. His six locations include Ft. Myers, Lakeland, Leesburg, Naples, Ocala, and Sarasota. David knew it was time to expand beyond  his first location when he had a hard time filling client roles due to the lack of presence in nearby markets.

Seeing the opportunity to expand, David brought local staffing professionals who knew the market on staff to help him reach new communities while growing his business. Multiple locations have brought David the economies of scale to continue building on his success, despite facing unique challenges in each market.

The greatest reward of owning multiple Spherion locations is the scale of economies. You are not tied to the destiny of one branch.

Tom Pentenburg - Indiana

Tom Pentenburg’s journey with Spherion began in 2009 after he spent the previous decade working in staffing. Tom opened his first location in Fort Wayne with a desire to focus on selling, servicing and connecting with the Fort Wayne area. After one year, his business began to flourish and he expanded his team beyond the initial staff of two. Seeing the potential of Spherion’s repeatable business model, Tom developed a strong understanding of his locations’ financials and steadily carried out his expansion plan for each location to build his own Spherion legacy. Now, he employs more than 50 staff members across his 14 locations in central and northeast Indiana.
