We are seeking a tenacious Benefits Appeals Specialist to join a team focused on supporting public employee benefit programs! In this long- term (indefinite) contract, you will act as a true champion for members by resolving insurance disputes and navigating the complexities of state and federal benefit regulations to ensure that public employees receive the benefits and resolutions they deserve.

Highlights:
- Indefinite contract
- Pay rate: $30-$31/hr
- Benefits: Major Medical, PTO, paid holidays
Responsibilities:
- Investigate and resolve complex disputes between benefit plans and program participants
- Negotiate changes in policy interpretations and practices with insurance plans and third- party administrators
- Provide expert guidance to participants regarding their options when a complaint cannot be resolved through initial channels
- Research and analyze state and federal laws governing Medicare and insurance programs
- Create professional reports and correspondence to document findings and resolutions
- Collaborate with internal teams to improve benefit plan delivery and member education
Qualifications:
- Current residency in the state of Wisconsin required
- Strong background in health, life, and income continuation insurance principles
- Knowledge of Medicare regulations
- Familiarity with the Wisconsin Retirement System or similar public employee benefit programs
- Proven experience in advocacy, negotiation, and dispute resolution
- Ability to work independently and prioritize a complex workload after initial training
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex information clearly
- Proficiency in research, data analysis, and professional writing
