The HR Support Specialist performs a broad range of human resources support activities for unionized, blue-collar industrial and plant operations. Reporting within the HR department, this role coordinates with plant managers, employees, external vendors, occupational clinics, and internal departments to support recruiting, onboarding, compliance, employee records, and daily HR operations. The successful candidate must be organized, practical, comfortable working directly with plant personnel, and able to handle sensitive employee matters with high confidentiality and professionalism.

Responsibilities:
Administer the pre-employment hiring process, including background reports, physicals, drug screens, and orientation scheduling. Conduct new hire orientation, process required paperwork, and enter data into Payroll and SAP. Recruit for hourly blue-collar positions supporting plant and operational teams. Create, maintain, and audit personnel files, Driver Qualification Files (DQFs), and confidential medical files. Process new hires through E-Verify, maintain accurate I-9 documentation, and complete state new hire reporting. Maintain Driver Qualification Files for commercial drivers and DOT-regulated employees, including annual MVR processing and medical certifications. Maintain relationships with contracted industrial clinics and Medical Review Officers (MRO), expediting post-accident drug screen results to plant managers. Assist with job fairs, plant events, employee meetings, disciplinary actions, labor law postings, and unemployment claims. Answer incoming HR calls, route inquiries to proper departments (Benefits, Payroll, Workers' Comp, Safety), and process vendor invoices

Skills:
Fluency in English and Spanish is strongly preferred. Industry Experience: Prior experience in construction, building materials, manufacturing, transportation, logistics, or similar industrial settings. Systems: Prior HRIS or SAP experience. Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Labor Relations, or a related field.

Union Experience: Proven HR experience supporting unionized employees or union plant operations. DOT Compliance: Direct working knowledge of DOT compliance requirements, Driver Qualification Files (DQFs), MVRs, and medical certifications. Work Environment Fit: Must be genuinely comfortable working in a loud, dusty, fast-paced plant environment and interacting directly with a blue-collar workforce. HR Compliance & Auditing: Hands-on experience with I-9/E-Verify compliance, personnel record-keeping, and internal audits. Recruiting & Onboarding: Practical experience with high-volume recruiting and onboarding for hourly workers. Technical & Soft Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), along with strong communication, multitasking, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
