This is a critical, hands-on role focused on the design and development of linear motion components, actuator products, and custom motion systems. Responsibilities:
- Lead clean-sheet mechanical designs for linear bearings, actuators, and motion systems.
- Reverse engineer competitive products and identify design differentiators.
- Own full-cycle development from concept through validation and release.
- Perform engineering calculations including load analysis, stress analysis, tolerance stack up analysis, motion profile analysis, drive load analysis, and material selection.
- Develop test plans, execute validation testing, and iterate designs accordingly.
- Create and maintain accurate BOMs, 3D models, 2D drawings, and tolerance stacks.
- Work closely with marketing, manufacturing, and sourcing teams to align design with customer needs and manufacturability.
- Support product launches with technical data, CAD assets, and catalog content.
- Interface with customers or sales on application-specific design inquiries.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in the linear motion industry (bearings, guides, actuators, motion systems).
- Proven experience designing linear motion products (recirculating or plain bearing technology, profile rail systems, lead screw or ball screw actuators, belt-driven systems, etc.).
- Skilled in CAD (preferably SolidWorks), FEA tools, and basic motion/force calculations.
- Experience with reverse engineering, rapid prototyping, and component testing.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, extrusion, injection molding, assembly).
- Exposure to motion control (motors, drives, sensors, encoders) and electro-mechanical systems.
- Experience in a small-to-mid-size manufacturing company or custom OEM environment.
- Familiarity with catalog creation, product datasheets, and web-based product configurators.
