Experienced Business Leader to Continue Nearly Four Decades of Workforce Service Across the Central Savannah River Area

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Spherion Staffing and Recruiting (Spherion) announced today that ownership of its Augusta, Georgia location has transitioned from longtime franchise owner Angela Swarts to Joe Schiavone, an experienced sales and business development leader with a strong background supporting industrial and manufacturing companies.

Spherion Augusta has served the Central Savannah River area for nearly 40 years, earning a reputation for strong community relationships and a customer-first approach. Schiavone will carry that commitment forward by leveraging his extensive leadership experience. Prior to joining Spherion, he spent more than a decade building and leading sales organizations focused on helping enterprise and manufacturing businesses strengthen customer engagement, drive growth and navigate evolving workforce and technology needs. The opportunity to pursue entrepreneurship and business ownership ultimately led him to Spherion. 

Swarts, who has owned and operated Spherion Augusta since 1995, has remained a key figure in operations during the transition period to support Schiavone and help ensure continuity for local clients, candidates and their colleagues. The office’s experienced internal staff will remain in place under Schiavone’s leadership.

Swarts firmly believed that finding the right successor was an important part of her decision to transition ownership after decades of serving the Augusta community.

“The relationships I built through this business have meant the world to me, so choosing the next owner was not a decision I took lightly,” said Swarts. “I wasn’t simply looking to retire. Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of helping countless individuals find career opportunities and supporting businesses throughout the community as they grow. Joe’s passion for people, leadership and commitment to service gave me confidence that he is the right person to continue building on the relationships and impact this office has created over the years.” 

Schiavone and his team are active members of several local business organizations, including the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce, Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce, North Augusta Chamber of Commerce and Aiken Chamber of Commerce. 

In the near future, Spherion Augusta will host a grand re-opening to introduce its new ownership and plans to continue strengthening Spherion’s role as a trusted workforce resource for employers and job seekers across the region.
