We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Accounting Supervisor on behalf of our client, a dedicated local nonprofit organization in Duluth, MN. In this role, you will work closely with executive leadership to oversee the organization's financial health, manage budgets, process payroll, and support core HR operations. Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
What You'll Do
- Financial Management & Budgeting: Maintain the general ledger, process accounts payable/receivable, prepare weekly bank deposits, and track fixed assets. Collaborate with leadership to build, monitor, and adjust annual and program budgets.
- Payroll & Tax Administration: Execute bi-weekly payroll, manage benefit deductions, track wage garnishments, submit tax payments, and file required quarterly and annual reports (including W-2s).
- Reporting & Audits: Prepare financial reports for grantors (county, state, federal, and private foundations) and lead preparation for the annual financial audit.
- HR & Operational Support: Maintain personnel files, handle worker???s compensation and unemployment claims alongside leadership, manage incident reports, and oversee contracted financial vendor services.
- Local Operations: Run local errands as needed, including visits to financial institutions, the post office, and business partners.
What We're Looking For
- Experience: 3 - 5+ years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or financial management.
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency with computerized accounting software, spreadsheets, and general office computing.
- Core Competencies: Solid understanding of accounting practices, payroll systems, and standard business reporting.
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to maintain strong relationships with banks, auditors, and internal teams.
- Requirements: Ability to pass a Department of Human Services background study and access to reliable personal transportation.
Bonus Points (Preferred)
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Prior experience with nonprofit accounting standards, grant management, and fund accounting.
- Experience developing and documenting standard operating procedures (SOPs).
