Yard Truck Driver, also known as a yard jockey or spotter truck driver, operates specialized vehicles to move trailers and other equipment within a limited yard or facility, such as a warehouse or distribution center. Key responsibilities include positioning trailers for loading/unloading, performing safety checks on their vehicle, maintaining an organized and safe yard environment, and communicating with other personnel to ensure efficient operations. This role requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), physical fitness, good coordination, and strong communication skills.
Responsibilities:
Safely and efficiently move full and empty trailers and other heavy equipment around the facility using a yard truck (also called a terminal tractor).
Maneuver trailers to and from loading docks, staging areas, and other designated locations for loading, unloading, and storage.
Conduct daily safety and operational checks on the yard truck, reporting any maintenance issues to management.
Maintain a clean, organized, and secure yard environment, ensuring easy access and compliance with safety regulations.
Coordinate with other yard personnel, truck drivers, and management to facilitate smooth and efficient workflow.
Provide support with trailer loading and unloading when necessary.
Working hours: 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM (Various Shifts Available)
Skills:
The ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, and sometimes lift up to 50 pounds.
Excellent coordination and attention to detail to accurately position large trailers.
Clear communication is essential for coordinating with other team members and drivers.
A strong commitment to safety protocols and regulations.
The ability to work in various weather conditions and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
