      Spherion is looking for an experienced manual lathe operator for a local shop. The operator will calibrate and operate a manual lathe machine or grinder, which is used to cut, sand, knurl, drill, face, and turn materials such as wood, metal, and glass. Before lathing, you read any blueprints or schematics, calculate the dimensions needed for the job, and inspect your workstation to ensure the machine and other equipment is in working order. You then set-up the machine and load the materials into it. When the equipment is in operation, you must pay careful attention to ensure that the tool settings remain within tolerances. When variations appear, you adjust the controls to correct for it.Responsibilities:Set up, operate, or tend lathe and turning machines to turn, bore, thread, form, or face metal.Crank machines through cycles, stopping to adjust tool positions and machine controls to ensure specified timing, clearances, and tolerances.Adjust machine controls and change tool settings in order to keep dimensions within specified tolerances.Move tool holders manually or by turning hand wheels, or engage automatic feeding mechanisms to feed tools to and along work pieces.Inspect sample work pieces to verify conformance with specifications, using instruments such as gauges, micrometers, and dial indicators.Lift metal stock or work pieces manually or using hoists, and position and secure them in machines, using fasteners and hand tools.Position, secure, and align cutting tools in tool holders on machines, using hand tools, and verify their positions with measuring instruments.Working hours: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PMSkills:Select cutting tools and tooling instructions, according to written specifications or knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics.Compute unspecified dimensions and machine settings, using knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics.Must be able to read blueprints.Knowledge of fractions and skilled in mathematics.Education:High SchoolExperience:1-4 yearsQualifications:2+ years manual lathe operating experience required.Must submit to a background and drug screen.High School Diploma or equivalent required.
